July 4th Fireworks

40,000 shells are launched from six barges on the Hudson River, outshining the bright city lights. Sponsored by Macy's, the big apple's 4th of July celebration dates back to 1958. 2011's theme is American Harmony, and the show will be synchronized with a wide variety of musical styles, from gospel and a capella to the sounds of the New York Pops Orchestra. The show starts at 9:20 p.m., but to find the best seats, make sure to arrive early. You may watch them from any point on the West Side Highway, south of 45th Street. The entire event can be watched nationally on NBC-TV.
