Great Googa Mooga Festival, Coming This Summer to Prospect Park

If there's one thing to get incredibly excited about this summer, it's The Great Googa Mooga, the food, music, and drink festival from the brains behind Bonnaroo and Jazz Fest that's set to take over Prospect Park's Nethermead on May 19th and 20th.

Where to begin? Well, let's start with the food. There'll be three food pavilions: The Hamageddon, centered around the noble pig and featuring selections from Alan Benton (of Benton's bacon); The UrBarn, featuring farm-to-table food and seminars; and The Pizza Experience, which will bring many of the city's top pizzerias together under one roof. There'll be about 75 food vendors in total, from some of the city's most beloved restaurants.

To drink, they'll be setting up an Oktoberfest-style tent where visitors can sample about 35 beers and over 100 wines, curated by Brooklyn Brewery's Garrett Oliver and Terroir's Paul Grieco. I've been saying for years that Prospect Park should host its own Oktoberfest, so I'm ecstatic over this.

The music lineup hasn't been announced yet, but there'll be two stages set up in the Nethermead, each featuring five acts per day. Music will be "a mix of national and local artists from different genres," and will provide the soundtrack from noon till 8:30 on Saturday and until 7:30 on Sunday.

Anthony Bourdain, Eddie Huang, and Marcus Samuelsson will be on hand to keep the party rolling, with the latter hosting a 1920's style Harlem Renaissance party on Sunday. Tickets are free, and go on sale Thursday the 15th. The "Extra Mooga" will be a VIP event in the boathouse, inspired by the Gatsby parties of the 1920s, and tickets can be purchased for that for $250 each/day.
