A little at a time, as money becomes available, they are in the process of becoming a version of St John's marketplace.
Please stop by and congratulate them on their decision, and tell them we are delighted they are staying in the neighborhood!
Good for them - and the neighborhood. That store has been an unacceptable mess forever. The building they are in is OWNED by HPD ( the city) and you would think they would have made them keep a cleaner shop. I spoke to one of the owners and he said that business has been slow lately with the economy, etc. I dont know, but people still eat and snacks during recessions too - they just weren't going to THIS store. The one that burned down on St Johns and Washington was nicer and the one on St Johns and Underhill is great too ( CLEAN). I think this renovation will make a difference for their business.
ReplyDeleteHundreds of people walk by this store daily on their commute to the subway -many, especially women whom I've spoken with that are uncomfortable going in there because of the appearance of that store - did NOT go in because it was a DUMP. This is the first store you hit off of Eastern Parkway if you are walking...it could be a very nice spot.
The owners were simply being so cheap for so long because they COULD. (remember the crappy awning that was there for years falling apart) The neighborhood's demographics are changing, guys. Thanks for waking up...you just can't get away with that silly crap anymore and make money. People just go to Trader Joes and use Fresh Direct for their snacks and food and leave you in the cold...you are now across the street from nice restaurant/ bars...
We only went there because you were close....you should be making a killing with this location and the right touches.
