Window Sills

In several cases the window sills have proven to sit a bit too high for our new windows. This is largely a result of the fact that the new windows open from the bottom, as opposed to the old sliders that opened from the middle of the vertical center support of the window. As a result the contractors have had to drop the sills to accommodate opening mechanism of the new windows. We have completed three of these now - 2 in 4H and 1 in 4G. We are working on the same now in 3C and 3E. That said this has not been an issue for all apartments, just another example of the inconsistencies we are facing. I thought you might like to see some photos of these and what this entails.

It' worth noting that when a sill is removed, there is the added benefit of adding new insulation into those otherwise vacant cavities, so while for some the sill drop means extra time in their apartments, they benefit from a little extra insulation.

The contractors will make every effort to repair the wood and match the stain of the molding or painted sills. However, please note that many peoples sills are well worn and so newly stained moldings or portions of sills, may not match the otherwise well worn sill.

This is an example of a sill that is still sitting too high. The window would not be able to close tightly or the owner would not be able to access the opening mechanism

The is an image after a sill has been removed

Here the contractor is noting to what level the sill will be dropped
