Day 1 Windows Installation 10.21.2013 report.

The day began quite optimistically with windows arriving at the building before 8am. Two shipments were expected for the day, including the windows for the apartments designated to begin the project (4E, 4I, 4H, and 4J), as well as some hallway and 3rd floor apartments. The windows were brought in and deposited in the apartments. Manda set to work checking the measurements and confirming the count. Work began in 4H first.

We learned from the sample installations that there would be complications along the way but that the nature of the complication would be difficult to predict. Unfortunately we hit the first of these with the initial window attempt. Support structures under and alongside the window frames, previously concealed by the original windo, presented a conflict with the measurements taken for the newly manufactured window. In order to accommodate the new window, it became necessary to remove (and will ultimately be necessary to drop) the window sill approximately 1/4".  The sill was easily removed with no damage and a carpenter has been brought in to reinstall the sill. Additionally, in this particular window, there were no support structures along the interior, onto which the new window can be fastened. This would have to be built in.

Troubleshooting these difficulties and discussing the plan for subsequent windows with the same challenge took much of the afternoon and so work stalled in the other apartments.
