The end of the first week brings mixed results. We have certainly had some success and some smooth installations, but we have also had many surprises. As mentioned earlier there is little to no consistency as to what we find when pull out an existing window. At times, there is the needed support in place for the new window, in others there is none or it has rotted away. In some case our internal wooden window sills are flush with the external brick and in others the internal sill is set in. Some windows have slight brick arches on the outside and some do not. These inconsistence have resulted in more work needed on the infrastructure for the window and has also had in some cases a negative effect on the fit of the new windows. This is combination with a few mis-measurments on the part of the contractors, and also wrongly manufactured windows, has created a very bumpy and unpredictable ride for us.
I am happy to report that many on the 4th floor have new windows that are installed, approved and ready for caulking. While there are still many issues to be resolved. At this point work will be halted until the architects and contractors can sit down to discuss the current issues list and coordinate a plan for moving forward. We feel that working on the weekend was a success, but welcome your comments on this as we consider the schedule for the future.
